Draft. This page is waiting for a lawyer review before Homepen launches.

Homepen is a homeschool planner and record keeper for parents. Your records are your family’s legal proof of school, so we built Homepen to keep them safe and in your hands.
The short version
- Homepen works fully on your device without an account. Your records leave the device only if you turn on backup and sync, or the optional “Smarter understanding” for typed and spoken notes (see below).
- No ads, no advertising ID, no selling or sharing of your data, no third-party product analytics in the apps.
- You can export everything (the Family Archive) and delete your account and data at any time.
What Homepen stores
- Family records you enter: school name, your children’s first names (and optional legal names, birth dates, grades), school year and breaks, subjects and lessons, what you logged (dates, minutes, notes), books, grades, photos of work, deadlines and filings.
- If you turn on backup and sync: your account (Sign in with Apple or Google: a user ID and the email or relay address they give us) and a copy of the records above in Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore and Cloud Storage, United States).
- Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics): device model, OS version and what the app was doing when it crashed. No family records.
- Purchases of Homepen Plus go through Apple or Google; we receive the purchase status, never your card.
- Waitlist and beta: your email, optionally your state, and when you agreed, to email you when Homepen launches. If you sign up for the beta, also the number of children and their grades, iPhone or Android, and your optional answer about records, to choose beta families and improve Homepen. Ask us and we delete it.
Homepen never asks for or stores Social Security numbers.
Voice, photos and smart input
- Speaking a note uses your device’s on-device speech recognition. Homepen does not record or keep audio, and never sends audio anywhere.
- Snapping a page, worksheet or book cover: the text is read on your device. A photo leaves the device only if you save it to your records and turn on backup and sync.
- Understanding what you typed or said (who, how long, which subject, which day) happens on your device first, with Homepen’s own rules and, on devices that have one, the built-in on-device model (Apple Intelligence or Gemini Nano).
- “Smarter understanding (uses Google Gemini)” is off by default. If you turn it on in Settings, a note that the device could not fully understand is sent as text only to Google’s Gemini API through Google Firebase. Before it is sent, your children’s names are replaced with placeholders such as “K1”; their grades and your subject names may be included so the answer fits your school. No audio, photos, account details or other records are sent. Google processes the text to return the answer under its terms for the Gemini API and Firebase; we do not use it for advertising and do not keep it. To protect this service from abuse, the app also sends an anonymous app-integrity check (Apple App Attest or Google Play Integrity). You can turn it off at any time.
- Looking up a book by its barcode sends only the ISBN number to Open Library (openlibrary.org, Internet Archive) to get the title and author.
Children
Homepen is used by parents. Children do not create accounts and we do not collect information from children. The information about your children is entered and controlled by you, the parent.
Who can see your records
Only the people you invite to your family (a co-teacher or a view-only member). Homepen staff do not look at family records except to help when you ask us to.
Website
homepen.app uses cookieless, privacy-friendly visit counts (no cookies, no cross-site tracking, no personal profiles). The free tools on the website (like the transcript maker) run in your browser; what you type is not sent to us.
Keeping and deleting
- Items you delete stay in “Recently deleted” for 30 days, then they are removed.
- When you delete your account, your family’s records and photos are deleted from our servers right away; encrypted backups that may still contain them expire within 14 weeks.
- You can export the Family Archive (PDFs, CSV, JSON and photos) at any time, free, with or without an account.
Your choices and rights
You can see, export, correct and delete your data in the app. Depending on your state you may have more rights (for example under California law); write to us and we will help. We do not sell or share personal information.
